country road
March 23, 2008
The past 3 days have been a very enriching and a new experience for me. I would say that i am really very priviledge and thankful that i can get such a country experience! My homestay guardian Ron; his parents and uncle own a farm in Millmerran, near Toowoomba (it’s in Queensland) around 2 and a half hours drive from Brisbane. And they claimed that the whole property that they own is larger than sentosa (eyes pop out), ye..that’s how much land space they have! I got a surprise from Ron when we are near the farm! He wanted me to drive his car!!! I agreed but i was afraid i couldn’t control the car well enough and might just crash into any trees nearby, but it’s kinda cool i made it safely to the farm!(considering i have never ever learnt driving before).
The lovely blue sky was painted with magnolia clouds that look like cotton candies and hoped that i could just pluck them out and eat; and with beautiful cuckatoo flying across the sky, with the sun that kisses on your face and the gentle breeze that wraps you around! oh so country! OUTBACK AUSTRALIA!
They have a donkey as a pet, sheeps, cows, bulls, grapes, pumpkins, gumtrees, frogs, ladybirds, several kangaroos hopping around, wallabies. We went on a safari around a part of the farm, going through the trails on a lorry. It took about an hour or so to cover part of the farm, so i would say it’s really huge! Did some bushwalking and being cautious at the same time to watch out for snakes as there are many around! Had a couple of driving lessons from Ron in a very old Barina which belongs to the grandpa, and one of the side mirror is gone. Anyway, i had no choice because Ron wanted me to learn to drive a manual car. Driving in the farm is fun! No where else to crash except for a few trees or the fence. But well, i had a good control of it and drove to the nearby padi field too! (oops, i haven’t got my learner’s license yet), good thing i am in a farm! On the second day, we went for a little cross country run and after lunch we headed to an irrigation farm which is one hour’s drive away. We got onto a humongous tractor for cultivating! (so cool!) The weather is good for them this year and foresee that they’re going to earn big bucks out of their crops. This is also where i dropped my camera battery and lost them. And also where i slipped while coming down from the dam and got a cut on my hand
We went to Crows Nest National Park and Ron met up with his japanese friends whom he knows from his church. We went bushwalking together down to the rocks where we get to see rock wallabies!!!(aww..they are so adorable)! It’s really slippery to walk on the rocks to get to the bottom just to watch them but it’s worth it after all.
Wallaby
We stopped by a cuckoo clock centre selling german imported cuckoo clocks too! I was just so amazed by the beauty of it and the price too!!! Most of them sell for more than a thousand Australian dollars! WOW! I had a really long day! I just came back home from visiting Kenmore Baptist Church with Andrea. Even though i am physically tired, i am glad that i made it to service because God spoke to me at that place at that very precious moment when i worshipped Him. Awesome.
